Never stop learning. My goal is to continually improve in any endeavor. To make every class/seminar better than the last. It has been an interesting and educational path I have traveled over the last 30 years. My law enforcement career started in 1985 as an auxiliary police officer, a 6 year term as a State Constable, 10 years as a Deputy Sheriff and 2 years working for a private contractor for the U.S. Marshall's Service. I was fortunate to work and see how all 3 levels of our judiciary system functioned (Magisterial, Common Pleas and Federal). The common thread I learned very early was the need for more and better training. I was fortunate to have some supervisors that recognized that need as well and sent me to numerous schools and classes to get certified as a Control Tactics Instructor. Some were good and some not so much. I took the good, discarded the bad, added some of my own that I knew worked under stress and created my own system of training that has worked pretty well. People would always ask me how I stay motivated to teach what I do. Well, living in close proximity to one of the largest maximum security prisons in the country is all I need to remind me what type of individual we have to deal with on a daily basis. I can see the eerie glow of lights at night coming from the high stone walls and look out at it and visualize how the inmates sit in their cells and plot their next move that usually involves an attack on a LEO. That's all the motivation I need. Having a good friend and fellow instructor killed in an ambush along with his partner was another driving force. We must always "Train like our lives depend on it" because it does!
