The boilers produce no less than 4500 pounds of steam per ton sold to Citizens Thermal Energy to supply the Indianapolis downtown heating loop including nearly all downtown businesses, as well as Indiana University, Purdue University's Indianapolis campus, and Eli Lilly, the area's largest pharmaceutical manufacturer. Operations include semi-dry flue gas scrubbers injecting lime, fabric filter baghouses, nitrogen oxide control system, mercury control system, and continuous emissions monitoring system. Boiler support systems include a reverse osmosis water treatment plant, turbine-powered electrical generator, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems, and associated piping, valves, pumps, and motors. Other duties include boiler water chemical analysis and treatment. Regular use of Bobcats, fork-lifts, pallet jacks, front-end loaders, and overhead bridge cranes. The facility is designated a Voluntary Protection Program Star facility by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for workplace safety.
