Bridging the gap between editorial and technical productions for the production and airing of The National. Co-ordinating with everyone involved in the daily process of getting a national broadcast to air by making sure everyone is on the same page for pretapes and changing live situations. Once the show has aired to the Eastern Canadian Provinces, I must ensure that a clean and fixed and technically professional and correct show are rolled out to the Western Provinces for the remainder of the Evening.

Working in the National VTR Pit to bing in news items from all over the world, and make sure they are available for broadcast for the live National show. On weekends I co-ordinate with the control room, show producers, and edit suited to fix any issues that occurred during the live show and make sure they are ready for the next hour to be played out across the country.

Digital News Gathering is responsible for the majority of the file based workflow and file based troubleshooting and problem solving for CBC Television News. We are the first point of contact for all digital media ingests to our server, including FTP, Sony SxS card based ingests and any and all digital camera files. We also handle media management for current affairs shows shooting a large amount of footage on a variety recording devices. We also field numerous calls daily from News room users experiencing technical issues ranging from corrupt media files, to server outages, to getting files to and from remote areas with little internet connectivity. We attempt to troubleshoot and solve all problems, and escalate certain issues to other maintenance groups if necessary. We advise CBC staff on the usage of media viewing and editing software and attempt to keep the mass usage of our ingest and server operations running smoothly. We also advise the various news departments of service outages and implement backup workflows to keep ours news operations running.
