About Matt Van Iten

Matt Van Iten is a Director of Engineering at ZERO.health. He possess expertise in javascript, jquery, angular, html 5, css3 and 30 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "I worked with Matt at Fanatics under his leadership for a year, and I can say that Matt was the best leader I could have ever possibly asked for. Interesting fact is that we actually started with a very wrong foot. At that time, things were confusing to me in my personal life, Matt joined the team and felt I wasn't delivering what was expected. After almost leaving the team in not more than a month, Matt gave me a second chance which I had taken seriously and proved my spot on the team. Matt was fun to work with, always bringing dad jokes to begin our standup and break the ice with a global team, also helping us that don't have English as the first language to improve our vocabulary. He was very understanding and a true leader, knowing how to motivate the team members, make them work together as well as protect them under higher hierarchy, negotiating work and deadlines when needed, and letting everyone show their work to leaders during demos. I definitely miss working for such an awesome leader that Matt is. I'd be honored to work with him again anytime, UPLM / Home Plate went great under his leadership and I miss every single member of the team. I wish Matt an excellent career and I'm glad that we have taken this time together. Thank you very much for being part of my career as well!", "As a software engineer reporting to Matt, I deeply appreciated his leadership, professionalism, and industry-specific knowledge. Matt demonstrated a high level of emotional intelligence by frequently checking in with me and the team to ensure a good work-life balance, facilitate connections with task-critical teammates, and assign personally meaningful work. Despite the general aversion engineers have to meetings, Matt was always clear and concise when leading them, providing relevant information essential for our day-to-day tasks. He effectively managed expectations around engineering deliverables, advocating for his team to ensure we had sufficient time to learn and develop our specific software tools. Furthermore, Matt was diligent in providing our team with relevant documentation regarding deployments, maintenance, and feature-specific designs and logic. His background as both an engineer and a manager was evident as he navigated our tech stack and team dynamics with ease. I highly recommend Matt for any role he pursues.", and "I worked closely with Matt at Fanatics , I was the lead SDET for Matt’s team . Matt was a great leader and lead the team to success. Matt streamlined the process so our team was always on time to deliver the new features to Prod. Matt was structured and had a very professional mind set to always deliver quality to our business users. I only have good words to say about Matt 💪👍"

Engineering Manager & Developer

Denver, Co, Us

I managed frontend development for a team of 6 UI engineers within a 10-engineer product team, while also developing and supporting new and existing features myself. Collaborated with CEO and VP to implement processes mitigating development risks and aligning the company with SOC2 requirements. Reviewed Product requirements, created development timelines, coordinated UI and Middleware (MW) work with other development teams and Product representatives. Led the initiative to re-design UI architecture into a modern application.Developed tools for the E-Discovery process. Their unique Predict technology uses machine learning to locate documents that are relevant to the matter being reviewed - reducing cost. This is commonly referred to as Technology Assisted Review (TAR).The Insight UI that we develop utilizes JavaScript, Webpack, Node, NPM, ESLint, StyleLint, Flow, Handlebars, D3, some jQuery, and an in-house created development environment. For our new products starting in 2018, we selected the React framework, along with Redux, Immer, Jest, and Cypress to standardize our UI development environment. Experiments with Jenkins, GitLab, Bitbucket, and Bamboo to find the right fit for our CI/CD environment are on-going.In 2016, we completed a complete redesign of the UI architecture where we took outdated application with no dependency management and created a managed package architecture using webpack, Node and NPM. As part of this, we reduced our code base by nearly 20k lines (to ~90k), created our own development suite, introduced coding standards via automatic code linting, and documented the entire project. All of this was accomplished while still delivering new features to our customers. In 2017 we leveraged Jenkins, Node, Jest, MSBuild and SonarQube to enhance our test and deployment process.
