With the acquisition of G&W Laboratories' NC location by Cosette Pharmaceuticals, my role as Senior Packaging Engineer has expanded. As the companies lead packaging SME I was instrumental in the site to site tech transfer of 89 SKUs over 30 months while our NJ manufacturing location was decommissioned. Cosette has demonstrated a strong focus on organic and inorganic growth through internal R&D projects and new product acquisitions. As lead packaging engineer I am responsible for developing and managing all incoming and outgoing packaging for G&W Laboratories, North Carolina. Here we develop, manufacture, and package generic Rx and OTC liquids, creams, gels, ointments, and suppositories. In addition to our G&W branded pharmaceuticals, we also contract manufacture products for global customers and private labels.Specific responsibilities include:• Collaborate on product introduction teams delivering new products to market• Benchmark, design, and prototype new componentry• Generate and maintain engineering drawings & specifications• Build, update and manage packaging records and bills of materials• Troubleshoot issues with new and existing packaging designs, materials, and processes - provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions• Support serialization efforts plant wide and ensure compliance with DSCSA standards• Work closely with suppliers, engineering, project management, operations, and sourcing to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously - all with varying timelines• Cost out, order, and evaluate component testing to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and safe delivery of product to consumer• Investigate and resolving packaging defect and equipment issues• Facilitate site to site tech transfer• Manage customer and supplier initiated changes• Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage• Evaluate and recommend new efficiency tools and procedures to improve packaging process and efficiency• Collaborate with operations to ensure that the packaging designs are optimized for manufacturability• Participate in investigations, perform root cause analyses, and develop effective CAPAs• Traveling with quality to perform supplier audits• Build and maintain a centralized database of specifications, packaging parameters, and supporting documents

While most people probably haven't heard of Perrigo, they've almost certainly used one of their products. Perrigo is an international manufacturer of Rx, private label OTC generic pharmaceuticals, and consumer healthcare products based out of Allegan Michigan.Working within the Packaging Engineering group at our executive headquarters provided me with some amazing challenges and experiences. Here I managed Perrigo Diabetic Care, medical device, Minoxidil, and analgesic packaging. This portfolio included both in-house manufactured products as well as contract manufactured products.An average week is split between meetings, supplier communications, packaging development, SAP spec and BOM management, and the occasional line trial out in the plant. While most pharmaceutical packaging engineers work almost exclusively with R&D in developing their packaging, Perrigo is unique in that a majority of projects are marketing driven. In addition to maintaining strict adherence to pharma packaging regulations and operational efficiency parameters, we work very closely with the Marketing department to build a dominating presence at the shelf. With generics promising the same efficacy as the name brand drug, it's no surprise that the best way to stand out is through your packaging. Matrix Technologies is an automation integration consulting firm based out of Maumee, OH. with regional branches in Denver, Chicago, Kansas City, and Indianapolis. Matrix Technologies works within a wide variety of industries including automotive, chemical, consumer products, food, oil, and pharmaceuticals. I specifically worked out of our Indianapolis office within a multidisciplinary packaging team. This team was focused on facilitating the expansion of customers current packaging systems as well as new system integration. These types of projects required a diverse team of engineers including chemical, electrical, industrial, mechanical, packaging, and process engineers. Through my previous experience and education, I provided the packaging expertise those projects required in areas such as packaging design, product safety, ergonomics, and distribution dynamics. Our projects covered packaging process improvements starting at naked product delivery to primary packaging equipment all the way through final palletization.

For the 6 months following my time at Kimberly-Clark, I was a member of the Global Packaging Technology and Development team at the Lilly Technology Center North in Indianapolis. • My role required me to follow cGMP and USP regulatory requirements to properly perform and document material characterization, method qualification, and laboratory testing to Lilly standards of quality. My role also includes the opportunity to present my findings to cross functional, and sometimes international, teams upon completion of my work.• In this roll I had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of pharmaceutical packaging types including: thermoforming, cold forming, vertical form fill sealing, as well as tube and blister packaging.

For 6 months I worked as a Packaging Engineer at Kimberly-Clark's West Research & Engineering building in Neenah Wisconsin. There I managed many packaging projects in Kimberly-Clark's Baby and Child Care division.• I resized and created packaging displays, special packs, and standard packaging for Huggies products• I worked with inventory software like our Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) system every day• I co-facilitated the first major distribution test runs for the future packaging development team on a very exciting and innovative new packaging design• I conducted multiple pilot plant tests and organized acquired data into presentations and reports that can be easily understood and utilized by multiple other departments.

Working with Inventory Control at Stryker Instruments in the Stryker APEX internship programPrimary responsibilities included:• Improving operational efficiency by working with suppliers to reduce or eliminate onsite repackaging• Working with inventory control team to help identify and rectify inappropriate packaging thusly expanding storage space and improving workplace ergonomics• Facilitating third party design and performing validation testing for new packaging of parts shipped globally.
