As I reflect on my 25 years of law enforcement, I have a hard time telling my story in the traditional sense—mainly because I have taken a “road less traveled.” My passion and fascination of business coupled with me loving law enforcement, I have become a hybrid between cop, corporate security professional and entrepreneur. As an example, in 2022 I balanced being an entrepreneur managing $1million + in security services revenue, scheduling over 200+ parttime officers in the middle of a pandemic, facilitate countless executive meetings with clients on new law enforcement practices dealing with the ever-increasing misbehaving elements plus being the primary Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) certified instructor of the Lawrence Police Department Reserve Division. Until recently, I was WTHR’s Security Director until Tegna Corporation decided to use a private firm in attempt to improve EBITDA pending a sale. In my years with WTHR, I provided executive and talent protection for special events, arranged perimeter security during moments of civil unrest, liaised with other area agencies more complex security manners involving WTHR interviewing controversial political figures to infectious stars with a cult-like following. A highlight and bonus to my job at WTHR was helping TV executives (local, regional and corp) make business decisions based my internal and external investigations. Cast in point…… I have chosen this hybrid style of career path because I love the challenges of being exposed to many different business-security variables plus it feeds my ambitions. And, at the end of the day, it is easy for me to reflect back and know that I made a living but more importantly, I made a difference.
