VAST supports clients through mis- and disinformation detection, enabling users to "prebunk" and debunk emerging narratives intended to mislead audiences.VAST captures stories about events across thousands of domains as they are published using automated full text scraping and natural language processing capabilities. These stories are calibrated by multiple theme profiles, nature of amplification, and impact. VAST filters these stories down to most likely propaganda and disinformation domains. They use a clustering model to find the stories that push emotional and victimization themes, and topics to characterize and contextualize events, including the ability to classify emotionality and victimization as common ingredients of propaganda and disinformation. Using unsupervised machine learning, VAST is able to isolate a subset of high-signal domains that push disinformation stories.
