About Matt Archer

Over the last twenty years, I have been in leadership roles helping form strategies, choosing products, and overseeing the implementation of tooling and platforms to support growth demands. Helping businesses at the leading edge of what they do, multiply in size and revenue has been the most satisfying part of these roles. Finding the balance between security and compliance while developing technologies that disrupt and enrich existing processes has been my experience. In the global market in which we now live and conduct business, there are hundreds of options available to data leaders. Compliance is now part of the landscape, but architecting functional APIs and automations is the key to delivering tangible and exponential outcomes. Partner selection, optimisation of workflows and ensuring that the finish line stays in sight and is achieved, are essential. However, what defines success or failure is a strong team is one where everyone understands and appreciates each other's value, and then aligns to an agenda that is larger than simply crossing the finish line.During my time I have seen how much of a positive impact well-engineered technology can make on the wider community it seeks to serve. My passion is that as we deal with the data challenges in front of us, we seize the opportunities along the way to do good, help people look after their families and their community. There will always be a shorter path to the finish line, but the one that we can all be proud of needs to meet more than just profit

Joining the Leadr team in the early stages of their startup journey was a great privilege. Bringing many of the lessons learned in the Pushpay season, we setup a cloud native environment, implemented the right tools and processes to enable the pursuit of hyper-growth, though a customer centric, secure and empowered working environment.

We built a market leading digital solution which enables customers to monitor, manage and report on the health of their fleet in real time. (www.whip-around.com).I joined Whip Around to support the business as it grew out of early funding rounds and moved towards more Institutional Investor involvement. As an early stage start-up, I set an initial focus on processes and controls for the wider business and implemented new operational toolsets and approaches. We then introduced Salesforce for the USA Team, consolidated reporting for the business, and implemented toolsets that would serve the customer service teams as a priority. This met the needs of the business units operating in different countries and facilited congruent communication with the product team, increasing our speed to market.I then assisted with the management of the Engineering and DevOps team including the transition of a new CTO into the business while supporting Enterprise sales and the maintenance of the IT Portfolio.
  • Cin7
    Chief Information Officer
    Cin7 Jul 2017 - Dec 2018
    Denver, Colorado, Us
I joined Cin7 in the middle of 2016 to assist with the growing pains that were being experienced in the management of the Cin7 SaaS offering. The platform had been successfully serving customers in a monolith model for many years, but the growth of the client business necessitated a move to the cloud as soon as possible. Over the next 6 months we went on a journey of building out the necessary external relationships, upskilling the core staff and building an internal DevOps model that would support a rapid but robust migration into Microsoft Azure. Following the migration we proceeded to build out support relationships, restructured our internal management approaches and started taking advantage of the enterprise offerings presented by the Azure platform. The platform was distributed across the Azure regions to deliver multiple points of redundancy, satisfy issues of data sovereignty and leverage performance increases of up to 10x in some modulesConcurrently to the work in the DevOps side of the business, the internal systems including Salesforce, also were taken through a renaissance. All processes that depended on a toolset were reviewed, resulting in new internal positions and external relationships being setup. Within 12 months, core business processes started returning the desired ROI and as departmental accountabilities for process ownership were established, the management team began to have access to far more accurate, relevant data to make more robust business decisions off. This saw us see over 200% growth in the following year.
  • Pushpay
    Chief Information Officer
    Pushpay May 2013 - Aug 2017
    Redmond, Washington, Us
In 2013 Pushpay was looking to deal with the challenges of setting up an emerging SaaS company with the technology to rapidly grow into new markets. This presented a unique opportunity to setup infrastructure from early on to support agile methodologies, cloud based toolsets and approaches that would rapidly scale. As we quickly moved into the Australian, US and Canadian markets; while additional financial resource was required, the initial design of systems and approaches we started with, held true throughout our growth and allowed us to work through seven relocations of the business in under 24 months. As Pushpay continued to rapidly grow in size and complexity of business process, I continued to implement market leading technologies alongside the development of teams of excellent people. This ensured Pushpay’s position at the front of our peer group of SaaS companies. There are no templates that can be applied to the challenge of growing a business over 4000% in three years, especially when you are processing transactions in the Billions of dollars. However, my approach to ensure alignment of teams, use of “true cloud” toolsets, and a deliberate focus on ensuring the outputs met the business requirements; saw this position be one of the most satisfying of my career to date.
  • Foundation Partners Nz
    Director Technical Services
Foundation Partners Nz Apr 2008 - Apr 2013
    Auckland, Auckland, Nz
The increasing focus on delivering enterprise grade solutions required a change in gear. Foundation Partners was setup with a unique focus of delivering enterprise grade solutions to the SME sector. My business approach of ensuring that must solutions fit the business requirement, was given the opportunity to find new expression. Moving clients into managed service models allowed greater depth of support, and the ability to deliver tangible business transformational process. As we grew our customer base, we selected Partners that would work with a similar passion and focus to us, to ensure that we delivered on everything promised. The internal projects of building Helpdesk Support Desks, Remote Monitoring and Management toolsets, CRM systems and Data Centre functionality all were able to be replicated many times into client environments. Our experience with international Wide Area Networking and medium sized ERP integration also enable our client base to grow as our excellence in execution continued to open doors to other opportunities.
  • Avenir Limited
    Technical Director
    Avenir Limited 2001 - 2008
    London, Gb
In 2000 many things were changing. Ownership of PCDirect had moved to the offshore giant Gateway, and a new company called EXONET was birthed. Avenir Limited was setup to fufill a dual purpose of helping small to medium companies make effective use of PC and Server technologies and at the same time provide consulting and support for new EXONET implementations.Within 2 years we were looking after 100 EXONET clients and as many networking clients. My experience with teams and quality systems ensured that we delivered great experiences for all our customers, and helped transform many businesses from complex manual systems to slick server based enterprises. Our attention to detail and strong accounts focus allowed us to help innovate at a core business level delivering far more value than our more narrowly focused competitors.During this time I moved into a systems architect role, ensuring our team achieved the qualifications and experience to not only innovate, but execute to the highest level. We became expert at delivering rich multi-branch terminal server solutions and were branded the "Microsoft Small Business Server Experts" from 2003 onwards. As broadband, messaging and wide area networking demands became more pressing on the companies resources, we began focusing on larger enterprise clients and migrations to the core Microsoft server platforms.
  • Pc Direct Ltd
    Production Manger
    Pc Direct Ltd 1994 - 2001
PC Direct was a great formative time of my working life. I was employee #32 in '94 and within a year saw almost a hundred other team members join one of the most dynamic IT companies in the country. I started simply building computers, but found myself catapulted into the work of production management as the requirements for delivery rapidly grew north of 500 units a week. Within 2 years I had been taken through an "emersion by fire" degree in production management. We re-engineered the process of individual engineers building single systems, to a fully ISO9002 compliant production line assembly process. Around '96 the Albany Production Facility was built and many of my ideas around the use of automated conveyor systems became reality. We dealt with issues around stock control of high value, fragile items, and worked through the logistic challenges of co-ordinating international and local supply channels to meet our ever increasing delivery targets.Amongst the responsibilities of managing 45 staff and a $300K+ a day production schedule, I also took a lead role in the development of software image development, disk replication technologies, and the design of the quality systems required to ensure our products retained their quality certifications.
