  • Fauna Inc.
    Vp, Engineering
    Fauna Inc. Oct 2018 - Feb 2020
    San Mateo, California, Us
As the VP of Engineering at Fauna I scaled both the team and our processes to ensure consistent, high quality releases of our flagship product FaunaDB. My team at Fauna consisted of Scala distributed system and database engineers, JAMstack savvy frontend engineers, operations engineers, and technical writers. We were responsible for all aspects of developing and operating our cloud datastore product. In my first two months at Fauna I cleaned up the hiring backlog, reviewing 100s of applicants and quickly moving to hire five staff with the budget that had been slated for just two roles. Working with our internal recruiter, we developed a straight forward hiring process that allowed us to get candidates through the pipeline in a two weeks. Being a startup, I was involved in all aspects of the business and product. In my time at Fauna I worked with the team to move us to a monthly release cadence, improving our release and testing process to ensure high quality releases with less stress and effort. I worked closely with the CTO and the product team to build out a product roadmap, handling the scheduling of tasks across most of the product. Communication is the foundation of any company, and in that spirit I drove writing monthly company updates to keep the global team in sync. I even handled day to day IT concerns, cleaning up our internal documentation and working to put onboarding and offboarding processes in place.
  • Otg Group
    Head Of Software Engineering
    Otg Group Jul 2017 - Oct 2018
    Us
At OTG Group I was initially hired to head up all in-house software development. At OTG we have three key systems: a custom system for managing vendor scheduling and document compliance used by both in-house event managers and vendors called Infrastruckture, native applications for guests, and our corporate website which uses APIs surfaced by Infrastruckture to show market information. We also surface a RESTful API for partners and provide custom web applications for premier partners to browse their dining options.Infrastruckture is a microservice-based Node.js app running in AWS using Docker containers with Elastic Container Service for orchestration. Some of my notable contributions while at OTG were:* Standardizing all web applications on React to improve our code re-use and reduce the amount of frameworks developers were required to know.* Implementing 2FA throughout the GSuite admin team.* Introducing a formalized project management process to ensure key decisions, results, and lessons learned were not lost.* Driving the implementation of a corporate intranet and weekly status tracking tool including requirements gathering, vendor outreach and management, trial implementation, and rollout plans.
  • Digital Domain 3.0
Director Of Engineering, Vr Platform & Apps
    Digital Domain 3.0 Apr 2016 - Jul 2017
    Los Angeles, Ca, Us
At Digital Domain, I built and managed a team of developers, designers, and support staff to create VR experiences for consumers. In the course of a year I grew the staff from a team of 6 to 21. I was responsible for roadmap development and scheduling for Digital Domain’s flagship offering and client apps, research and selection of technology such as spatial audio solutions, and day-to-day staff management. To support and evolve Digital Domain’s product offerings, I wore several hats. I assisted in the creation of art assets for mobile applications, set up automated build servers for mobile apps, wrote marketing copy for app stores and customer newsletters, and assisted with code reviews and architecture planning. In addition, I managed key clients such as the Olympic Broadcasting Services and NBC to aid in scheduling and communication of issues as well as support for live broadcast events. My greatest accomplishment at Digital Domain was orchestrating the development and launch of over 50 apps across multiple platforms for the Rio games. Given roughly 8 weeks to accomplish this project, the team built iOS, Android, and GearVR apps that could be easily customized for 14 different broadcasters. Additionally, we built a full CMS as the backend to support global content delivery. The apps were delivered on time and on budget and received excellent reviews from clients and users.
