Matt knows first hand what it takes to build a successful, news operations. Matt worked for more than a decade in the field as a photojournalist. He worked nights. He worked weekends. He faced dangerous situations. He broke his bones to get the live shot. So, when Matt sends someone out on assignment he isn't asking anything more than he would expect of himself. Matt's detailed planning for the big events like the Iowa Caucuses and presidential visits has earned the respect of our entire team. Matt works tirelessly to make sure our team has the information, the video and the interviews to tell the whole story and put it in proper context. Matt aims to please. But, to his credit, Matt has no patience for those who don't share the desire to make our news operation number one. At the same time, he understands the challenges our journalists face. Matt knows when to blow off steam and knows when to let our colleagues due the same. Matt helps us to produce our best work under deadline and under pressure. He takes seriously and personally our obligation as journalists to tell the complete stories and to report the latest, local news to the people of Central Iowa at all times. Matt knows the community. There is no one better to express our concerns as journalists trying to meet our obligations to seek truth and to report it fully. Matt volunteered to be our representative at monthly meetings of law-enforcement officers, emergency-management experts and local journalists. Matt has developed a strong relationship with our network news-sharing services, network affiliates and our sister stations. When news is breaking, especially when we are short handed or during under extreme weather conditions, we all count on Matt to assign the people and the tools to serve the people of Central Iowa. The includes Iowans from the Minnesota state line to the Missouri state line from Manning to Montezuma, Iowa. Matt doesn't walk out of the newsroom in the middle of breaking news. At the end of his shift, he doesn't wash his hands of work that needs to be accomplished between the time he leaves and time he is scheduled to return to work. Matt thinks about the next shift. He takes pride in the fact we produce compelling, timely, local news on air, online and on social media. Matt knows people depend on us around the clock, each day of the week. He works hard to make sure we reach our goal to be the number one source for news, weather and sports information in Central Iowa.
