About Matthew Barbini
My role as National Team Director of Performance at USA Swimming involves a variety of tasks but is rooted in relationship development and management. In the office I'm primarily focused logistics and operations planning, long-term athlete development programs, staff management, and communication with athletes and coaches. On the road, at meets and training camps I provide advanced services to National Team athletes and coaches including performance analytics, filming, race analysis, technical consulting, and scouting. Understanding and servicing the unique needs of our elite National Team athletes and their coaches, as well as maintaining strong relationships with them, are the most critical components of this position. While I enjoy my work on the performance side this industry, I am also interested in the business application of sport and believe that swimming, like many sports, is uniquely positioned to continue its growth in the coming years. The intersection of business, performance, and media is where I see the greatest opportunity for future development both in terms of sport and my own career.
