    Although I still occasionally write for publications--committing "random acts of journalism"--this six-year period between 1999 and 2005 proved to be the most intensive period of my freelance writing career. More than three-quarters of my work was for the Chicago Tribune, for which I wrote 800-plus stories on local government, as well as a wide range of news, features and business news.From January 2000 to January 2004, I also freelanced for Time magazine's Chicago bureau, contributing to more than 80 stories and traveling on assignment throughout the Midwest. Other publications where my work appeared: USA Today, Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated For Kids, Chicago Parent, as well as many others.
