As a research and development professional for 22 years, I have enjoyed undertaking challenging problems across a range of disciplines: mechanical engineering, modeling and simulation, data science, machine learning, system integration, and electrical engineering. I have found that the somewhat artificial distinctions between disciplines tend to blur under the light of first principles. As such, I enjoy melding theory and pragmatism to achieve solutions that are both elegant and functional, making me equally likely to be found crafting machine learning algorithms or managing test programs in the field. I am a principal at Protection Engineering Consultants, where I lead our efforts in engineering analytics, a focus area at the intersection of first-principles engineering analysis and cutting-edge data science. Day to day, I take a leading role on various projects by assembling, managing, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists from disparate fields. I have developed several multi-million dollar business areas, ranging from sensor and surveillance technology to engineered material aircraft arrestor systems. I work to establish longstanding client relationships by approaching their challenges and goals as my own; when I help them to succeed, I feel that I have succeeded. Outside of my professional work, I develop financial trading algorithms, write fiction, read literature, and enjoy running.
