My main career focus is to apply a technical education to creative projects and to collaborate with others in their journey to do the same. I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, because I love building all sorts of things, although for over a decade I've focused on software engineering as my career. I'm passionate about teaching technical topics and never stop learning from others, which is how I settled into Developer Relations.I founded the Developer Relations team at Asana, building the team from myself to a team of 5 during a fascinating part of Asana's history. We shaped much of Asana's developer policies and ecosystem, including community building, documentation, SDK and tools development, and partnerships while managing scaling challenges, feature additions, and exciting company growth. I joined the company at about 150 strong and had the privilege to be present through our IPO and growth to nearly a thousand Asana team members. My software specialties involve programming in Python, C++, Ruby, Java, and Typescript/Javascript, although most days I feel like there isn't a programming language I wouldn't love to learn more deeply. I almost always have several hobby projects on the side to learn new things. I have created full stack apps to help people make better decisions about, for example, "what to eat tonight", rolled my own shortlinks / bookmarks on Github Pages with Stable Diffusion-generated QR codes for quick and attractive links to share for mobile devices, spent many hours gathering insights and testing hypotheses about developer experience though SQL queries against big databases which track user activity, and built basic 3D graphics and visualization software in OpenGL for aerospace simulations. I have a hobby to take 3D images and [stitch them together](https://github.com/praecipula/stereo_correlation) using my own software.

Engineering Manager And Tech Lead, Developer RelationsAsana Feb 2020 - Oct 2021San Francisco, California, UsI led our team to maximize the impact of Asana's platform amongst our customers and developers. During my tenure the team weathered COVID and working from home while finding new friends to help us grow our impact. As the team's manager I had responsibility for individual growth and professional development as well as team growth, hiring, and retention. -
Developer Advocate / Devrel Program LeadAsana Jul 2016 - Oct 2021San Francisco, California, UsI worked on Developer Advocacy and Developer Relations at Asana and was the first and founding team member. The Developer Relations team drives adoption of Asana's API through increased visibility and decreasing friction. This includes maintaining relationships with integration developers, providing them resources they need to be successful with Asana, getting them onboarded with our platform and API, discovering API usage and API wants, prioritizing Asana's API development, publicizing trends and upcoming features, and working with teams who are integrating with other API providers. As the founding member of the team I worked with my peer Platform stakeholder teams to develop a vision and roadmap for the Platform and Developer Relations at Asana. As the team grew I invested more effort over time to leadership and mentorship responsibilites, splitting my time between individual contributor work and team prioritization tasks. -
Founder, CeoBrain In The Sky, Inc Oct 2010 - Jul 2018(Ruby on Rails, Javascript/Coffeescript, MongoDB, Full Stack): Brain in the Sky enables conscientious consumerism through matching people to the products which fit their ethics. As the technical founder, that means I do pretty much... anything and everything that needs to be done. The server is designed for maximum flexibility, with rolling/incremental data model upgrades and full audit logs and revision history built into its core. Most communication with clients is done through an API, even in the browser, where a thick Javascript client communicates asynchronously with the server. To date, the codebase spans 36,000+ lines of code. -
Software EngineerC3 Iot Jun 2009 - Oct 2010Redwood City, California, Us(Java, Javascript, Ruby): I worked on the server side of a SaaS platform for deep scientific analysis of resource utilization for small to global-sized corporations. The product is built to perform analysis of high volumes of data at near-real-time to track resource usage and optimize operations for maximum ROI. I had the honor of designing our first deployment process and performing the first deployment to production. I designed and built a unit conversion engine with the goal of making our calculations unit-agnostic. With co-workers, I used ANTLR to build a domain specific language to abstract and simplify working with our metadata-driven platform. -
Software EngineerSharpcast May 2008 - May 2009San Mateo, Ca, Us(C++, Qt, Java/SWIG): Member of the client team for a file synchronization and backup company. Main software tasks included os-specific filesystem monitoring, version control, local database management, and low-level file manipulation. Additional tasks included user interface construction and automated test framework development and integration. -
Systems EngineerLockheed Martin Jan 2006 - May 2008Bethesda, Md, Us(C++, OpenGL, Java): Developed tools to model astrophysical systems for the Missile Defense line of business. We carried out engineering simulations to help form project guidelines, define performance targets, and provide information for new contract acquisition. In addition, I managed a small program with a budget of about 5 million dollars for the local branch of a cross-site, classified service-oriented system to enable independent and independently classified components to participate in a unified simulation environment. -
Mechanical EngineerToyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Aug 2005 - Jan 2006I was an engineer for the manufacturing line of the body weld department performing engineering maintenance and line upgrades. I worked with vendors and production team members to make the manufacturing line more efficient and undertake capital refit projects, including installing a new manufacturing station required for the build of the 2007 Camry.
