I oversaw editorial content for the Missoulian, a 30,000-circulation daily paper in western Montana, and the Ravalli Republic, a five-day per week paper serving the Bitterroot Valley. I also oversaw all digital content at missoulian.com and several of the leading social media channels in the region.

I oversaw operations of a twice-weekly newspaper and a twice-monthly shopper in Libby, Mont. I supervised seven full-time employees, while coordinating efforts with publishers and department heads of 14 other newspapers in our publishing group. I coordinated all aspects of production, content creation, digital media, advertising sales, billing, budgeting and circulation. I also served as the company's spokesman, appearing on radio stations, moderating congressional debates and serving in various client-satisfaction roles. I've overseen the launch of several innovative digital products and marketing programs, including tourism-based websites, retargeting campaigns and PPC initiatives.

I founded a media company in Bismarck, N.D., that published a 10,000-circulation monthly news magazine, operated a daily news website and coordinated marketing strategies for a dozens of local and regional companies. The company was profitable since the launch. I served as general manager of news operations, president of the board of directors and the chief creative officer of the marketing division. I was the top salesperson, and I personally cultivated more than 75 advertising clients in the first year of publication. I was also the company’s spokesman, appearing on regional television, radio and at various civic groups. I oversaw all accounting and billing duties for the company. I sold the company to a group of investors when I accepted the position as publisher at The Western News.

I managed a newsroom that included four reporters, three editors, a web content producer, several interns and a handful of freelancers. I helped transform a small niche newspaper into a political powerhouse that won dozens of national journalism awards and was cited frequently in the Washington Post, Congressional Quarterly, the National Journal, The Huffington Post, RedState.com, etc. I acted as the spokesman for the newspaper, routinely appearing as a political analyst on local and national television stations, as well as local and national radio programs. I developed the paper’s social networking strategies, oversaw a redesign the paper’s website, initiated the paper’s first blog, and kick-started multimedia efforts. I helped increase the newspaper’s web readership (both page views and visits) by more than 300 percent in only two years. In 2009, 2010 and 2011, the paper was awarded first place in general excellence by the Arizona Newspaper Association.

I managed a team of local government reporters and the state bureau for a Pulitzer Prize-winning, 90,000-circulation daily newspaper. Duties included assigning stories, coordinating regional coverage, leading team meetings, editing copy, organizing the daily news budget and coordinating long-range planning. I was part of a team that won first place for breaking news reporting with a story detailing a serial killer’s bizarre past only hours after his arrest. I oversaw an investigation that led to the firing of the governor’s chief of staff. My team of reporters also prompted Arizona State University to address $100 million worth of structural deficiencies at Sun Devil Stadium that the university’s own engineering consultants characterized as “life-safety” issues.

My beats included energy markets, the Bay Area economy and large public companies such as Clorox, Safeway, Disney, Valero and Chevron for a 280,000-subscription newspaper group in the East Bay that includes eight dailies and a handful of weeklies. I covered energy markets in a major distribution hub that has half-dozen refineries and the worldwide headquarters of Chevron Corp. I also broke several stories nationally on The Walt Disney Co.’s buyout of Pixar Animation Studios Inc.
