I like to make buildings work better, for longer. I do this by looking for new solutions to longstanding problems—rather than expecting different results from the same failed approaches of the past. I'm a team builder and I seek win-win outcomes.I'm a building envelope (aka building enclosure) engineer and materials scientist. I'm also the chief executive, head of business development, IT guy and few other things at Copeland Building Envelope Consulting, which I founded in 2018. The firm has since grown to a team of 10 amazing professionals.With experience in design, forensic investigation, litigation support, due diligence, and building enclosure commissioning (BECx), I am proficient at diagnosing and designing repairs for envelope problems in all construction types.My work includes commercial, academic, historic, contemporary, detached and multi-unit residential, and other structures such as bridges. I solve problems related to roofing, waterproofing, masonry, curtain walls and other contemporary wall systems, skylights, and windows.I am an accomplished author and public speaker, and have presented at national conferences such as the RCI/IIBEC International Convention, International Roofing Expo, and Build Boston. My writing is published by Construction Specifier and RCI/IIBEC as well as on LinkedIn and other online platforms. I’m involved with industry organizations such as the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants IIBEC, the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA), the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP), the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and others. I am a registered Professional Engineer in all of the New England states as well as Ohio and Texas. I hold a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Record. I am also a Registered Roof Consultant (RRC), a credential issued by the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC).I’m a graduate of the MetroWest Leadership Academy (Class of 2018) and the recipient of a Worcester Business Journal 40 Under 40 award for 2018.
