The goal of CAMPOS is to graduate more students who can independently care for the increasing number Latino patients in North Carolina.The purpose of using SPs is to give CAMPOS students the opportunity to practice the communication, diagnostic and examination skills that they need before they begin their professional careers, with special attention given to correct native-like use of language and culturally appropriate doctor-patient behavior.CAMPOS SP duties include:Assuming the role of a character with previously designated 'case' (including age, background, life circumstances, and health issues) and remaining in character during student-patient interaction.Providing specific post-interaction feedback, including but not limited to reviewing specific language errors and how to correct them and advising students on specific culturally sensitive and appropriate behavior (level of formality of language, personal space, personal questions, etc.).
