No matter where in world you are sport is always important. You may compete and participate, you may just observe and enjoy, you may hate it but those you care for may still love it and so it is a part of your life. Sport is the battlefield where no weapons are required just the skills and drive and success of an individual or a team are needed to be victorious. With sport playing such a huge part in our society and culture, after going along to a comic script writing group in Leeds, I thought to myself, how could I bring two things I love, that don’t always get along, together. It was then, looking up at a poster of my sporting hero I knew that the story of Steve Prefontaine would be the best way. Pre’s story has already been made into two films and a feature length documentary with another on its way. So if his amazing story could work in film why not in comic form.Steve Prefontaine. For those that know Pre’s story, this is a graphic novel celebrating that great and wonderful story and the man that Pre was. For those of you that do not know who Steve Prefontaine is and was, he was an American distance runner in the late 60’s and early 70’s, who was seen to be big as The Beatles in the world of track and field. He was a character and a dedicated athlete who ran from the very front to win every race.Pre's story not only includes the story of a man who knew how push himself past the point that his body could take but the events of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, which he competed at, as well as the founding of a certain sports shoe company in America that his coach, the legendary University of Oregon coach, Bill Bowerman co-founded.
