I lead the product team responsible for YouTube's Main Apps, where 2B viewers come to watch each day on Android, iOS, youtube.com and mobile web. My team builds innovative new features, with an emphasis on the video-viewing 'watch' experience, modernizes the visual design and builds systems and platforms for other YouTube teams to integrate into the Main Apps.

I led a team of crack PMs, working on innovative new features which delight viewers with an emphasis on video navigation. Highlights included video chapters, timed comments and the Yoodle - YouTube's version of the Google Doodle.

As such it's a highly-leveraged surface where every launch is consequential and every tiny detail matters.

I worked on the YouTube product management team as PM for the Android app on smartphones and tablets - a nexus of awesome.I began leading the Main App for Android when it was a small but fast-growing platform, and oversaw it's development to become YouTube biggest client by far, supporting hundreds of millions of hours of daily usage and more than half of YouTube's site-wide watchtime.I led a project to increase our app release frequency from every few months to every other week - at the time, the fastest app release cadence at Google. In between I led the redesign of app navigation on both Android and iPhone to a set of top-level tabs, still in use today. I launched a visual redesign which brought Material Design to YouTube for the first time and launched YouTube's first miniplayer.

I led product development for the YouTube experience on several living room devices, including Xbox, Nintendo and smart TVs.

I led the launch of movie and TV show rentals and purchases on YouTube. The backend infrastructure also supported the launch of movies and TV shows in the Google Play Store, our sister project. YouTube and Google Play movies and TV shows are now a combined multi-billion dollar business.

Wore many hats, and pitched in where needed at the tiny Bay Area sales office of a UK telecom startup. With my sales partner, closed deals worth $xxM with US carriers including AT&T, Global Crossing and MCI plus BD deals with partners including Microsoft.

Co-founded a consultancy business which ran software development offsite events for up to 100 attendees. Each 3 day event was a hothouse for an internal software development project, where competing engineering teams built working prototypes to jump start the product development process. Customers included British Telecom, Microsoft and Qwest Communications. Co-led a team of 10 engineers to conceive and develop innovative voice-over-IP products, together with an underlying voice application creation framework. Introduced and evangalised the emerging technology of SIP to the organisation (now an accepted standard) and helped shape technical product strategy for a disruptive technology in an incumbent, monopoly business.

Cut my teeth as a software engineer developing some of the earliest ecommerce and web applications available from an investment bank. Wrote web services before they were known as such and built applications in AJAX, before the technology had a name. Joined the bank before it even had an external web site, and left having built web-based trading applications for external customers.
