Profile bio

About Matt De Waal

I am a graduate of San Jose State University with a BS in Aerospace Engineering. In addition to my coursework, I joined the Formula SAE team Spartan Racing at school, which designs, builds, and races a scale Formula-style car against other universities from around the world. After College I worked as a Composite Bonding Technician at Icon Aircraft building the Icon A5 in order to gain more hands-on experience. There I trimmed, prepped, and bonded parts to the fuselage, as well as represented that division in 5S meetings.Afterwards I became an Estimator at Boyd Corporation where I quickly picked up the required skills to be successful such as interpreting customer drawings, learning material reaction and performance, different manufacturing methods, and determining Customer requirements. After about 2 years I was promoted to Quality Engineer where I also excelled. Primarily working with Boyd O-rings but also with Boyd Modesto Converting Quality operations. Main highlights are working to improve and streamline Boyd O-rings PPAP, Inspection, and Certing processes, utilizing the Automated MicroVu to further reduce inspection times, oversee the Quality lab with up to two Technicians, and Investigate and follow through with Root Cause and Corrective/Preventive Actions. I am currently in this role.

Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Solidworks, Powerpoint, and 15 others.
