Mattea Kramer is an independent writer. Her 2017 coverage of one town's response to the opioid crisis led a CNN producer to make a mini-documentary following her storyline. Mattea is a regular contributor to the syndicated political site TomDispatch, which places her work in The Nation and elsewhere.In 2011 Mattea received a News21 journalism fellowship from Harvard’s Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy, which led to her reporting on the economics of food safety for The Washington Post. Mattea also served as senior research analyst and then research director of the federal budget think tank National Priorities Project (2011-2014), and in that capacity she wrote regular commentary on political and budgetary topics, including the viral essay “How America Became a Third World Country,” co-authored with Jo Comerford, which was published by The Guardian and other outlets. Mattea was the lead author of National Priorities Project’s book, A People’s Guide to the Federal Budget, published by Interlink in 2012.Mattea is also an accomplished ghostwriter, having penned seven nonfiction books for clients, including for a former Fortune 15 CEO, on topics including entrepreneurship, health care, and corporate social responsibility; one became an Amazon business bestseller.Most recently, Mattea has been at work on a novel called G City which will be published in May 2025.
