Profile bio

About Matt Egerer

- ACTIVELY PURSUING NEXT OPPORTUNITY - My experience is grounded in nearly 20 years working in public policy at the Wisconsin State Capitol. Throughout this time I rose through the ranks to positions including Committee Clerk of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee and Policy Director for the Assembly Democrats under the leadership of Minority Leader Peter Barca. This work was highlighted by accomplishments such as drafting and shepherding through prominent legislation like the state's texting-while-driving ban, placing the POW/MIA Chair of Honor monument in the Rotunda of the Capitol, and working internally to push back against the controversial Act 10 era under the prior administration. These accomplishments, and all of my work in legislature, required the coordination of legislators, communications initiatives, and external advocacy groups in order to ensure that quality and productive legislation was moved through the legislative approval process. My work has required facilitating discussion amongst a team, creating strategic plans, setting objectives, and monitoring the progress of each project to ensure an effective outcome. I have developed communication skills that are critical to ensuring all relevant parties are appropriately up to speed on important details. I led and helped oversee the campaign operations that brought two candidates to the Legislature. As policy director for the Assembly Democrats, I garnered a great deal of experience presenting and preparing complex information and issues to significantly different audiences, whether it was for presentation on the floor of the Assembly, in committee to other lawmakers, to the media, or to the general public or a constituent. With my many years of state service I bring a strong knowledge of how the gears of government operate, as well as the soft skills and "Capitol culture" aspects of the work that can't be taught in a classroom. I oversaw the open records compliance for the Assembly Dems and know how to discreetly navigate the politics inherently involved with operating a government office. I know what it takes for a bill to navigate the many hoops to become law, as well as how they can become derailed if necessary.I've also worked on a lot of different other things over the years including being a singer/songwriter and performing musician, a babysitter, a cashier and cart manager at Target, and as an exterior house painter with College Pro Painters.

Listed skills include Legislative Relations, Political Campaigns, Policy Analysis, Fundraising, and 17 others.

I volunteered here in hopes of securing further employment while I used extended legislative paid leave time and benefits as I recovered from an injury and planned my wedding.
