Matteo Prussi is an Industrial Engineer, with a scientific background in renewable energy conversion technologies. He is currently employed at the Sustainable Transport Unit of the EC Joint Research Center - Ispra. His activity focuses on the assessment of the environmental impacts of the various modes of transport and on the potential for alternative sustainable fuels, in particular for aviation sector. In ICAO/CORSIA is currently co-leading of the Core-LCA FTG, and co-leading of the Fuel Long Term Aspirational Goal.Before starting the work with the EC, in the last years he had been working as external consultant for private companies and public institutions. In 2014, in the framework of his PhD thesis, he was a visiting student at CEP of the London Imperial College, where he performed a market analysis of Italian and European biofuel sector. He obtained his Ph.D. in Energetic Engineering at the Department of Energetic Engineering "S.Stecco" with a thesis on the use of pure vegetable oil in Micro Gas Turbines.He was a research fellow at the Energy Department of the University of Florence, as a renewable energy expert, especially in the sector biomass and biofuels, with a particular focus on socio-economic aspects related impact of these technologies. Between 2012 and 2017 he covered the role of Director of the RE-CORD renewable energy consortium of the University of Florence. Part of his research activities, largely supported by European projects (i.e. ITAKA and BIOREFLY) focused on alternative technologies for biofuels production and second generation bioethanol, with appraisals of their potential for aviation. Another important part of his research activity dealt with upscale of technologies for microalgae biofuels production, for which he designed two large scale plants, in Italy (BIOFAT project) and in Chile (Algaefuel project).
