About Matteo Sollecito
I am a recently graduated student from Swarthmore College, achieving a B.A. in Chemistry with a minor in Engineering, focusing in inorganic and analytical chemistry. My senior research project was on the synthesizing, characterizing, and testing the unique properties of engineered nano-materials. Throughout, I employed advanced knowledge of common software applications, research methodologies, analytical/spectroscopic lab practices and Python coding. I am now working towards my Professional Masters Degree at Purdue University in Gas and Petroleum Chemical Engineering, which will prepare me to employ technical skills to the business management aspect of industry. In addition, I am an accomplished student-athlete, used to the rigor and dedication required for long-term success in a group context. Being a captain of the team my last year at Swarthmore, and selected to the Under 23 and World Baseball Classic rosters for Great Britain National Team in 2023, I am frequently called on to lead my various teams on and off the field, and accustomed to the pressures in representing a larger society. I am thus, uniquely prepared to deploy educational knowledge and leadership skills towards complicated tasks, inside tight working groups and with distinguished contributions.

Summer Plant Engineer Capstone Project
Modeled and simulated Evonik’s T3A1 Vacuum Pump system using AspenTech’s simulation software (Aspen Plus) to diagnose the issue causing solvent carryover within the process and provide effective solutions. Researched literature to find 3 viable solutions to mitigate solvent carryover, modeled/simulated each finding with Aspen Plus, and concluded that adding an F-type heat exchanger coupled with a vertical two-phase VLS (vapor-liquid separator) could reduce solvent carryover in Evonik’s process by 99%. Pitched my proposed solution to Evonik in a 20-minute presentation and illustrated my findings in a 20-page project review paper, culminating in the company considering my solution for implementation at their Lafayette plant.

Acted as a bridge between this company and Permico Energy, an American based midstream company who is researching logistic and storage solutionsfor green hydrogen. By utilizing my bi-lingual skills I was able understand and translate important chemical concepts from one firm to another, forming a relationship between the two companies, who now hope to work together in the future to commercialize clean Hydrogen gas.
