Thesis subject: "Multitask segmentation from satellite imagery for burned area delineation and severity estimation"Undertook a comprehensive research project to address the complex issue of wildfires, focusing on their rapid delineation and severity estimation using satellite imagery. ● Developed an extensive dataset ( 500+ images) of past wildfires, using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery.● Successfully proposed a multi-task learning semantic segmentation approach for wildfire delineation and burn severity estimation.● Tested and evaluated several state-of-the-art semantic segmentation models.● Achieved robust results with F1 scores over 92 for delineation and RMSE scores lower than 0.9 for severity estimates. Icarus is a students team at Politecnico of Torino, focused mainly on airplane design. Specifically, the IT division is responsible for designing onboard electronics and ground stations for the airplanes and rocket, which are designed by the aerospace division of the team. My primary responsibilities involved user interface and firmware development.● Designed and developed a ground station control system for rocket launches, including the parachute system, using Arduino and STM32 Nucleo boards with C++.● Designed from scratch a flight route planner through clouds using algorithms such as Dijkstra and A* in C++, Java and C#.● Retrieved and analyzed NOAA meteorological data, in particular GRIB and GRIB2 files.● Implemented a XPlane11 plugin to gain a visual perspective of the airplane's position using data from Simulink's simulated UAV flight.● Designed an airplane stats GUI with MatLab App Designer.
