Providing technical leadership on several key Appian platform initiatives, including:* A highly available (HA) solution for Appian's primary backend datastore using Kafka and Zookeeper to manage transactions, eventing, and cluster concerns like leader election.* Transforming the application deployment from requiring a customer-provided full J2EE stack application server (JBoss or Weblogic) to a preconfigured Tomcat server shipped with the product.* Reconfiguring Appian product services to run in Docker containers for cloud customers.* Introduction of Redis as a service and integrations for web application session storage and caching to meet the goal of seamless failover in an HA environment.

Primary responsibilities have included fixing integration issues for the Appian Enterprise web application across JBoss, Weblogic and Websphere containers involving OSGI, Web Services (Axis2), and REST services, enabling product certification on those platforms. Implemented a process to translate Java code to an Objective C library for the iOS platform using Google's j2objc (submitting bugfixes to the project in the process). Wrote a utility to generate POJO's from an XSD file using JAXB/XJC to automate a manual coding process.

Served as a technical lead, lead developer, and/or architect for several J2EE projects for clients such as SRA, AMS, Lockheed Martin, Jackson National Life, Mantas, FINRA, and Verisign. Have designed and coded enterprise web application solutions using all of the major platforms (WebLogic/Oracle, WebSphere/DB2, Sun AS/SQLServer, etc). In my time with Tiger Team, I have developed a very detailed, hands-on level of experience in a broad array of J2EE frameworks and supporting technologies.

Served as the Oracle DBA for Nextel Communications' Asset Management Project testing effort. Responsible for database setup, teardown, process automation, and advanced performance tuning.

As one of the first software developers hired by the company, played an instrumental role in standing up the initial release of a retail brokerage J2EE application (www.foliofn.com). Designed and coded several aspects of the system (session & entity EJB's, front controller servlet, form validation, navigation, HTTP session management), and handled the Weblogic server setup (configuring container resources for EJB's, applications, clustering, and transaction management). Also provided guidance and tasking to a small team of JSP developers.

Worked on a series of projects including several proposal efforts for Dept. of Defense contracts, a stock market data mining application, a web-based photo archiving system, and a corporate data warehouse. Developed programming skills in Java and Perl, and did significant work as an Oracle DBA. Worked my way up from a developer to a technical lead by the end of my tenure.
