The Rt Hon Matt Hancock comes from a tech background, and served in the UK Cabinet under three Prime Ministers. He is best known for his role as the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care from 2018 to 2021, where he led the NHS and the wider UK health system through the Covid pandemic and spearheaded the vaccine delivery programme. He also served as the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, leading the UK's digital transformation policies. Matt's professional journey began in data analytics and economics, including roles at the Bank of England and his family's tech business. Identified with dyslexia during his first year at Oxford, Matt earned a First-class degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, followed by a master’s in economics from Cambridge University. Elected as the Member of Parliament for West Suffolk in 2010, Matt was responsible for over a dozen pieces of legislation, including those underpinning UK data rules and modern NHS operations. He championed various issues in Parliament, such as early identification of dyslexia in schools, business innovation, and criminal justice reform. In 2023, he founded the Accessible Learning Foundation (ALF) to promote these causes and continues to work closely with its trustees. Outside of politics, Matt has a strong interest in technology and its potential to benefit society. He is particularly passionate about advancements in artificial intelligence and health technology and explores ways to use tech innovations for social good.
