Reporting directly to the Engineering Practice Director the role involved the senior technical and commercial leadership of schemes across Atkins portfolio of major programmes. As part of his duties Matthew was responsible for developing relationships with contractor clients such as Buckingham Group and Skanska. Additional responsibilities included acting as an “Amber Stage Reviewer” undertaking independent project and bid reviews for projects and opportunities up to £10m in value.

Responsible for a team of 120 structural engineering staff across the Midlands, the South West and South Wales. The teams delivered civil and structural engineering solutions for a wide range of projects including the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvement Scheme, M4 Corridor Around Newport, the Great Western Electrification Programme and East West Rail.

Leading a team of around 40 civil engineers. The practice supported both highway and rail markets working on projects such as East West Rail, Birmingham New Street Station, Great Western Electrification, Redditch Branch Enhancement and Chiltern Platform Extensions.

Responsible for the technical leadership of single and multi-disciplinary railway projects including various station works for Birmingham New Street Gateway, LNW S&C Renewals, Northampton Silver Resignalling, Evergreen 3 Footbridges and Great Charles Street Underbridge.

Civil Engineer working on the feasibility and detailed design of bridge renewals and new builds in both the heavy and light rail environments. Key programmes included Network Rail's Bridgeguard 3 and Structures Framework Contracts along with Edinburgh Tram and Mersey Tram schemes.
