About Matthew Beeler

Ph.D. physicist with >10 years experience in experimental academic research. I have helped design and build two separate projects in the field of ultra-cold atomic gases. The projects were both built from scratch, starting from an empty room. This requires skills in optics, electronics, laser technology, imaging, radio-frequency technology, vacuum, and computer control techniques. All of these skills are requirements of my current position.I am proficient with Labview, Mathematica, Matlab, Igor Pro, and Autodesk Inventor.     Performed experiments with synthetic gauge fields in ultracold gases in the laboratory of Dr. Ian Spielman.These experiments perform quantum simulation, helping us to understand material systems by modeling them with well-controlled ultracold gases. Our lab has pioneered a technique to make our charge-neutral particles behave as if they have charge. Since electrons in a solid are charged, this allows our model systems to make a closer connection to the materials that we simulate.Supported by NIST-ARRA postdoctoral fellowship.

    Thesis project in the sub-field of atomic, molecular, and optical physics, under the direction of Dr. Steve Rolston.We use ultra-cold gases of atoms to simulate solids. Lasers cool and trap the atoms so that they mimic the behavior of electrons in certain solids, particularly superconductors.
