Raven’s flagship device is a low-cost wireless solution to reduce laboratory fume hood energy consumption – aiming to save 20,000 tons of CO2 emissions by 2022. The hardware is patented, and we are currently undertaking a pilot project at UNSW.

The energy division focuses on transboundary energy connectivity as a vehicle to increase the sustainability of power grids, whilst also integrating higher shares of renewables. We were studying the barriers which have slowed transboundary power trade and how these can be overcome through economic arguments.My role was specifically looking at the possible technical barriers, and how new advancements in High Voltage DC transmission are allowing remote renewable stations with higher transmission efficiency than typical HVAC (and how HVDC grids can interlink with typical HVAC grids). I focused on country-specific arguments and looked to provide advice to member countries at the Energy Meetings in January 2017.

Working within Lion Co, I was working in the area of Process Control and Automation at the Sydney Tooheys brewery. I was part of a focus group tasked with increasing the efficiency of one of the main production lines, through strategic action and the in-depth analysis of line data. Maintaining peak capacity machine operation while retaining the flexibility to accommodate a number of products is imperative for efficiency across the site. The production facility uses Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs with a distributed SQL database for data acquisition. Producing the equivalent of 4 million beers a day when running, the scale of production is enormous.

Provecta Process Automation Pty Ltd is an Australian owned electrical engineering consultancy company specialising in the fields of industrial automation and control systems, with an emphasis in power generation and related industries. The company’s head office is located in Sydney.Currently working in the Energy Solutions office, I’m amongst a group of highly qualified engineers that hold significant expertise in the division of process control solutions, electrical engineering services, and systems integration management.

My role at National Instruments as an Applications Engineer took on many descriptions. I have completed many training modules for LabVIEW and initially starting working with shape recognition and non-destructive overlays to create an aesthetic and interactive user interface for National Instrument's Australian Robotics Competition. Once this was completed, I took on customer support, Demo project construction and product testing.

Validation/testing of Silanna PDK (Process Design Kit) for customer use. Utilising Cadence, this program allows an accurate simulation of semiconductor circuits with the specifications of the Silanna design process.
