Matt is an environmental scientist and ecologist with fifteen years of experience focused in the aquatic science, resource management, environmental impact assessment and site remediation sectors. He has worked in various capacities in this field, including federal and provincial governments, non-government organizations, private industry and academia. Matt has experience designing and leading research and impact assessment programs in a variety of systems including terrestrial, wetland, stream, large river, lake and marine environments on projects ranging from nuclear operations to hydropower development. He has a strong working knowledge of aquatic species and their habitats in regions ranging from Ontario to the British Columbia coast. As an Environmental Research Biologist with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories' Chalk River Laboratories, Matt works on site characterization, ecological risk assessment, and environmental remediation projects on Canadian nuclear legacy sites - both terrestrial and aquatic. He also conducts basic and applied research on the fate and transport of radionuclides in the environment across Canada. His graduate research focused on the effects of hydropower operations on the habitat, spatial distribution, growth, and other life history traits, of stream fishes in northern Ontario. Specialties:Stream ecology, fisheries surveys, radioecology, experimental design and data analysis, field surveys and monitoring plans, environmental impact assessments, habitat compensation plans, environmental compliance monitoring and reporting, marine use planning, ecosystem based management.
