In the absence of the Fire Chief the Deputy Fire Chief performs ALL applicable duties of the Fire Chief in a sufficient manner until arrival/return of the Fire Chief. 1. Develops and coordinates plans for efficient and effective operations within his assigned areas. 2. Responsible for overseeing all policies, procedures and practices related to department training and safety. 3. Consults with the Chief Engineer and other company officers to insure all equipment, apparatus, PPE, testing and servicing and maintenance is preformed as required. 4. Makes recommendations to the Fire Chief relative to the long-term needs for maintaining, and improving effective operations within his assigned areas; 5. Oversees the administration of his assigned areas; 6. Annually recommends a proposed budget with respect to his area to the Fire Chief; 7. Attends training programs oriented to the duties of the Deputy Fire Chief; 8. Oversees and provides for departmental operations at all levels to ensure safe and effective operations; 9. May serve on associations, boards, committee's, etc. to insure department representation. 10. Responds to emergency calls as necessary and may assume command and direct activities (in the absence of the fire chief) under the department's jurisdiction and authority.
