Fixed term post funded by the Department of Education, in the context of Cumbria County Council’s successful application for a Teaching Partnership with Lancaster University and allied practice partners. The purpose of this post is to increase the number of, and drive up the quality of social work education in the region, with a particular focus on practice placements, Continuous Professional Development and statutory social work learning opportunities.

• Effectively manage complex and high risk cases.• Provide professional supervision and ensure access to skills based supervision where needed in order to ensure best practice is followed• To support the management team through a range of processes including the provision of direct practice, advice and strong leadership• To support the development and implementation, particularly within a given locality, of Self Directed Support through the use of tools such as Personal Budgets, Supported Assessment, Direct Payments and individual service funds.• To support the social work team to deliver the services efficiently and effectively to standard and within cost constraints.

• To represent, organise, advise and control a service area to deliver the services efficiently and effectively to standard and within cost constraints.• Manage a team of Social work practitioners ensuring teams for adults deliver outcomes in accordance with the directorates responsibilities, under the relevant care legislation and in conjunction with customers, partner agencies and providers. Ensure management in a way that empowers and enables the customers and maximise opportunities through personalisation.• To improve outcomes for adults in Cumbria by managing teams, that ensure delivery of effective person centred outcomes for the members of the public in Cumbria, who have social care needs. • Develop and implement the team plan and contribute to business and service planning.• Interrogating data, recommending actions and establishing priorities.• Full responsibility for Human Resources procedures in the area, including recruitment, discipline, performance management and appraisal.

Seconded role within Specialist commissioning, targeted specifically at carrying out a programme of reviews and re-assessments to ensure that the support provided is proportionate to the needs of the person and is provided at a competitive price. Work included; investment in new models of support, including a prevention/early intervention programme and more cost effective use of supported living. This strategic approach was based on a commitment to help people with a learning disability to achieve their aspirations and achieve their potential to live more independently.

• Undertake assessments and deliver appropriate person centred support and outcomes for members of the public in Cumbria who have social care needs.• Effectively manage complex and high risk cases.• Practice within the relevant national legislation, professional standards of practice and organisation policies and procedures and ensure compliance with care/clinical governance principles.• In collaboration with individuals, their carers and others, implement the approaches of Self Directed Support through the use of mechanisms such as Personal budgets, individual service funds and direct payments. • Demonstrate effective communication skills including an ability to discuss and explain sensitive information with service users and carers, and produce clear accurate and factual written reports and records.
