Design Manager for 3 teams across the transport and power disciplines. My primary focus was to manage the operations of the design teams, ensuring projects were delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard of quality. Managed a team of designers, drafters and engineers in the public lighting, traffics and ITS disciplines. The role included leading and developing design staff and managing the design phase of small to medium projects to ensure quality standards and on-time delivery of projects. I arrived at a team that had been operating with limited supervision and not following company quality control processes - I successfully retrained the entire team on quality processes and monitored outputs to ensure systems were followed. Selected Achievements:➜ Deliver on a large portfolio of projects with limited resources, each month exceeding targets and ensuring delivery dates are achieved. Regularly review and amend the design program as resources and project delivery requirements change. ➜ Developed and implemented a review process that dramatically lifted the standard of designs, reduced the number of errors, and lifted the level of compliance with quality assurance processes. Resulted in deliverables meeting high standard of quality.➜ Created a framework that ensured the team was operating cohesively and efficiently for the first time. Enhanced communications and knowledge sharing (projects, technical information and training), and improved workloads and resource management of team members. ➜ Lead training and mentoring of all recruits, to close the gap in skill requirements, developing staff as effective members of the team, leading to improved quality on projects delivered. ➜ Improved the CAD templates for road lighting designs, resulting in a reduction in the number of design review comments from clients and contractors (with technically accurate and clear templates). CAD Template contributed to the reduction in design time.

This role consisted of design and drafting of traffic signals, road lighting and ITS projects across Queensland for Main Roads, local councils and developers. Projects included everything from intersection upgrades, new intersections, car park lighting, route lighting on arterial roads and major upgrades of Motorways -always working collaboratively with external clients to coordinate across disciplines and support the project team. My focus was to deliver designs in a timely manner, in accordance with scope of works and specifications whilst adhering to internal quality assurance systems. After attaining RPEQ status I commenced technical oversight and supervision of designers, and project management of large multidisciplinary projects. This role also included provision of technical advice and mentoring of young engineers.

Secured consulting contracts, providing technical advice on lighting and signals designs.

Commencing as a Cadet Technologist, I underwent an accelerated learning curve to successfully deliver designs in the area of traffic signals and road lighting in compliance with relevant Transport & Main Roads standards and specifications. I was also successful in attaining secondment as Advisor (Traffic Systems), where I provided technical advice to throughout the department and contributed to the development of technical documents and specifications. Selected Achievements:➜ Riverside Expressway Cabling Refurbishment, Brisbane: Led the design and drafting on the removal and installation of cabling for road lighting on the Riverside Expressway. Effectively delivered a detailed installation plan that met the highly complex requirements of the project.➜ Power Supply to Fauna Overpass, Mt Cotton Road: Supplied power to a new fauna overpass (metal structure) with power supplying fauna tracking devices mounted on the structure. Detailed design ensured electricity connection point and installation of cabling onto a complicated steel structure, simultaneously meeting safety requirements.➜ Over Height Sensors Riverside Expressway: Sourced expertise and delivered solutions to install sensors on the Riverside Expressway in Brisbane to protect the Kurilpa Bridge from damage as a result of collision with over height vehicles. Since installation, zero major incidents have occurred at the site.➜ Key team member on the building of a facility for testing traffic signals and road lighting products. Located relevant site, developed a mounting structure for the traffic signal lanterns, developed concept design and reviewed test procedures and documentation. ➜ Contributed to research on generators for traffic signals to ensure a standards framework for generators that were flooded did not pose an electrical safety risk.

Successfully completed a comprehensive apprenticeship, including: fault-finding and maintenance on telecommunications installations (exchanges, networks, train control systems), bench repairs of telecommunication and electronic equipment and responding to maintenance calls for installation, repair and replacement of office equipment.
