This role sits within Clinical Development, however, operates similar to an early medical affairs role. As a member of the Science & Medical Engagement Team I help to support delivery on early development programs through capturing strategically impactful insights, as well as KOL and investigator engagement helping to drive recruitment and retention of our Phase 1 and Phase 2 studies, as well as build and maintain relationships critical for early pipeline program success. Maintain comprehensive clinical knowledge of Gyroscope/Novartis portfolio and increase disease area awareness within the medical community. Work cross functionally with other internal teams to share medical insights and address knowledge gaps to help shape and revise key internal strategies. The team supports programs from early development through Phase 3 planning prior to handing off to Medical Affairs.

Originally hired by Gyroscope Therapeutics, which was acquired by Novartis. In this role I was a core member of a clinically focused field team operating in a Medical Affairs role for early development programs. Collaboration with the Clinical Operations to recruit and assist research clinics with study feasibility and startup, as well as help identify patients eligible for our interventional studies. Maintain comprehensive clinical knowledge of Gyroscope portfolio, and increase disease and company awareness within the medical community related specifically to Gyroscope clinical programs and clinical product development. Serve on cross-functional teams within Gyroscope sharing medical insights to help shape and revise key internal strategies. Engagement with a broad array of healthcare professionals, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, research coordinators, and other key staff at both academic and community/private practices.

Optometric private practice. Complete array of refractive, contact lens services, and ocular disease management. Involved in practice management including, but not limited to strategy for growth, staff management, HR, and billing consulting. Built out new glaucoma and ocular disease clinic. Heavily involved in patient refractive decision making including contact lens type and modality, as well as spectacle lens options from type of anti-glare coating to type lens (single vision vs. progressive, etc). Involved in helping patient to strategize best refractive plan for all aspects of life, which many times includes a combination of contact lenses and several task specific glasses. Frequent use and evaluation of OCT, fundus photography, visual field, and corneal topography. Independent management of ocular disease including glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, other ocular diseases. LASIK co-management.

Involved in practice management including, but not limited to strategy for growth, staff management, and consulting for billing manager for billing challenges. Heavily involved in patient refractive decision making including contact lens type and modality, as well as spectacle lens options from type of anti-glare coating to type lens (single vision vs. progressive, etc). Involved in helping patient to strategize best refractive plan for all aspects of life, which many times includes a combination of contact lenses and several task specific glasses. We accept VSP insurance. Frequent use and evaluation of OCT, fundus photography, and visual field. Independent management of ocular disease including glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, other ocular diseases. LASIK co-management.

Multi-doctor MD/OD practice. Heavily involved in practice management strategy including, but not limited to strategy for growth, staff management, and IT solutions. High volume with extensive independent management of ocular disease including glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, other ocular diseases. Co-management with onsite ophthalmologist including pre and post op cataract, trabeculectomy, retinal and glaucoma laser procedures (PRP, SLT, PI, Yag cap). Frequent use and analysis of OCT, fundus photo, Humphrey visual field, and Optos Optomap with fundus autofluorescence and wide field fluorescein angiography.

Optometrist private practice. Complete array of refractive and contact lens services. Accept VSP insurance. High-end designer frame and lens options. Frequent use and evaluation of OCT, fundus photogarphy, and visual field. Heavily involved in practice management including, but not limited to strategy for growth and consulting for medical billing.

Optometry Resident. Hospital-based full-scope optometric care with emphasis on ocular disease and geriatrics; extensive independent management of dry eye, blepharitis, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy; co-management of patient care with UCSF ophthalmology residents and clinical faculty.
