Refining NZ is New Zealand's only oil refinery and the leading supplier of refined petroleum products to the New Zealand market, including petrol, diesel, aviation fuel and other products.My achievements so far in this role include: part of a three man first response firefighting team successfully controlling a large and quickly spreading fire at the neighbouring Northport terminal, successfully trouble shooting desalter effluent quality issues and rectifying them, and quickly learning the processes and procedures of a new refinery in order to participate in the full refinery turnaround of 2018.My responsibilities include managing assigned day to day operations during shifts with full process knowledge of all units comprising the Asset North area of the Marsden Point refinery. I conduct regular, routine inspections and operate, monitor and optimise units following safe operating procedures. I prepare equipment for maintenance either working solo or as part of a team participating in turnarounds. I also have extensive experience responding to unplanned outages including a lightening strike and a tsunami evacuation.

My role focused on performing functions as required by the Permit To Work system including gas testing, first break stand-by, identification tagging, proving depressurisation and managing / auditing work groups. My achievements in this role included: led firefighting activities during a fire at height including rescue of a trapped colleague; replaced an amine feed pump avoiding environmental impact and potential refinery shutdown; participated in the total refinery turnaround in 2016; and acted as one of four legmen for the 2013 refinery turnaround.
