After graduation in chemistry, I became the site chemist for a hazardous waste disposal company, in this role I also responded to a range of haz mat incidents and site clean up operations on behalf of a range of different organisations such as local authorities, fire services and the Ministry of Defence.I joined the Environment Agency in 2004 and led the emergency response to pollution incidents in the East Area. I was heavily involved in emergency planning and led on Environment Agency contributions to 3 LRFs and was the chair of the Leicestershire Industrial Hazards Multiagency Group. I am the regional lead for the memorandum of understanding between the EA and 8 fire and rescue services and in this role I increased the ability of fire services to protect the environment through the provision of training and equipment. I am the current chair of the Nottinghamshire LRF flooding Group. I have delivered the environmental elements of the HMEPO course at the fire service college and have developed and delivered many training courses on incident response for many different organisations. I have a great deal of experience of facilitating emergency response exercises and have been involved in Leicestershire’s highly successful Vector Command training facility which delivered multi agency strategic and tactical training and exercising. I also developed a range of live play, no notice exercises for the Environment Agency.I am also a retained Scientific Advisor for West Midlands Fire Service where I support both the DIM and Hazmat response. I took part in the MAIAT Olympic Torch Relay response and was part of the team that delivered scientific support for the Olympic sailing events in Weymouth. I also have an LLb in law from Nottingham law school.
