Job Purpose: • To contribute to the delivery of highway & engineering services in West Berkshire and to contribute to the provision of professional advice to the Council in relation to highways and engineering services. • To design and supervise construction and act as project engineer on medium ($300,000 to $500,000) size highway projects and to provide support on larger projects ($500,000 +).• To ensure the Council achieves value for money in the delivery of highway and… Show more Job Purpose: • To contribute to the delivery of highway & engineering services in West Berkshire and to contribute to the provision of professional advice to the Council in relation to highways and engineering services. • To design and supervise construction and act as project engineer on medium ($300,000 to $500,000) size highway projects and to provide support on larger projects ($500,000 +).• To ensure the Council achieves value for money in the delivery of highway and engineering services.Competence Summary: • Experienced in the delivery of highway and engineering works.• Able to demonstrate good project management skills and experience.• Experienced in dealing with contractors, engineering consultants and suppliers.• Experienced in the compilation and administration of contract documents for highway works including the preparation of specifications, bills of quantities and engineering drawings.• Good working knowledge of the Department of Transport’s (UK) ‘Manual of Contact Documents for Highway Works’ (MCHW) and ‘The Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).• Good working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM) and procedures.• Good working knowledge of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD).• Good working knowledge and understanding of carriageway surface treatments and pavement design.• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD design packages including KeyLines, AutoSign and AutoTrack.• Computer literate particularly in the use of MS Word, MS Excel and project management software tools such as MS Project and Primavera (previously known as Pertmaster).• Proficient in the use of level and staff and have some experience using Total station at University.
