At B&Q I managed a team of thirty night staff with the task of replenishing the store and receiving deliveries. I was solely responsible for the running of the store and the training and development of the whole team. The company expected high standards of merchandising and also a high adherence to Health & Safety. The job was fast paced and hard work but also rewarding. Some other skills this position covered were effective planning, training, control of the teams shifts and holidays, security, merchandising and fork lift truck driving.

At Phones4U I managed a team of up to fifteen staff mostly sales advisors with the task of exceeding KPI targets selling mobile phone contracts and additional services. The company had a process of sitting customers down and finding out their needs and requirement and then selling them the best deal for their usage. I really enjoyed this position and found that it used my emotional intelligence and inter-personal skills to do business and provide a great service. Some of my other skills this position covered were recruitment, training, ensuring we compiled to administration, security, leadership and selling for the customer's needs. During my time at Phones4U I improved the performance in several stores most notably in Oldham where the store was designated for shut down due to a poor sales performance but I managed to turn the store around resulting in a re-fit instead of closure.

Brent Cross

My first management position was at Toys R Us. I started in 1999 and completed their training programme. The training was incredible and focused my career on retail management to continue to the present day. My main responsibility was the processing of deliveries, warehouse control and merchandising the majority of the store. I managed a team of up to fifty employees. Policy also instructed staff to swap roles for six months of the year providing me with the further experience of running the front of store and the multimedia department whilst being accountable for administration. Toys R US also gave me the opportunity to be employed in the flagship store in Brent Cross London for two years giving me great pleasure to work in a fast paced high energy environment. Some other skills this position covered were customer service, warehousing, selling skills, training, recruitment whilst also dealing with executives and administration and payroll. During my time at Toys R US I won awards for my store most notably the ‘Merchandising Manager of the Year’ for great standards and sales performance.
