January 1989 marked the beginning of my career, employed as an office junior/tea boy at RJ Watkinson & Partners. When I wasn’t making the tea, or doing battle with the dyeline printer, I learnt my trade on the drawing board using pen and ink. Making the change to the heady world of AutoCAD in 1994, at the same time picking-up CADS-RC detailing software. A breath of fresh air after being used to the manual detailing of reinforced concrete.A brief sojourn to Andrew Waring Associates provided me with a grounding in Microstation, along with Geopak Rebar detailing software.Hailing from the Southampton area the seemingly obligatory spell at the late great Gifford lead to my introduction to Revit, also getting the chance of a tinker with nurbs modelling via Rhino.Alas my tenure with Gifford came to an end just before the renowned name was assigned to the annals of time, but was lucky enough to be picked-up immediately by Reuby and Stagg. A refreshing return to a smaller company with a strong commitment to producing very economical designs, in a very economical manner. A new company, a new RC detailing package, in the form of MultiSUITE. During my time at R&S Revit has once again become the dominant platform for the production of drawings. Not only that, but the refinement of Revit’s link with SCIA engineer is now starting to reap rewards.
