Novel product developed:• Developed FOAM-X, a product to stabilize Australian coal seam gas wells.• Developed high temperature enzymes for the oil and gas market, stable up to 95C.• Led several R&D projects that addressed specific client needs.• Commercialized several other formulations to solve problems within the oil and gas industry.Consulting projects:• Led R&D into causes of microbial corrosion of coil-tubing and developed mitigative strategies.• Initiated and led collaborative projects with academia, sponsoring $75,000 in R&D that benefitted the company through academic relationships (Univ. of Victoria, Univ. of Calgary, Univ. of Alberta)• Led R&D efforts into several different chemical product development projects that increased company client base and exposure to greater markets.Funding campaigns:• Raised $284,000 in non-dilutive grant money through various Canadian granting agencies (IRAP and AITF) to fund research and develop projects. Another $250,000 was raised through tax rebate programs (SRED: scientific research and experimental development).

Novel technology:• Developed, tested, and patented a catalytic carbon capture system that enables extremely low acid gas streams to be processed economically. • Evaluated small scale carbon dioxide conversion into liquid fuels.• Studied various chemical pathways for a full scale carbon dioxide capture plant.Collaborative projects:• Several proposals for funding carbon dioxide-to-fuels technologies were considered with multiple partners.• Helped study and develop a business model for revenue generation using air-captured CO2 for enhanced oil and gas recovery.• Studied the life cycle of fuel emissions and developed several strategies for mitigating them.• Studied many existing CO2 capture technologies and considered modifications to enable their use for ambient air CO2 capture.Funding campaigns:• Wrote several grant applications, three of which were awarded: Alberta Innovates ($124,000); Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP, $150,000); Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation (CCEMC, $500,000).

Novel discoveries:• Discovered a novel mechanism for water splitting using ruthenium catalysts• Observed the first oxygen-bound catalytic intermediate which led to a previously unsuspected mechanism for O2 generation.• Performed kinetics analyses of water splitting catalysts to elucidate the mechanism of O2 evolution

• Taught 20 laboratory sections of chemistry to undergraduate students including: 1st year chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry.• Was well recognized among students for capable instruction and supervision, and a unique ability to present complex chemistry concepts in an easily understood fashion
