Board observer in GlycoscoreDx a company commercialising a novel diagnostic test for prostate cancer originally devloped through Prostate Cancer UK funded academic research. Prostate Cancer UK therefore has an equity stake in the spin out. I represent the charity's interests in board discussion and provide strategic advice to the company about the prostate cancer diagnostic landscape.

Funding from the NIHR, the two BRC partners, and the North West Regional Development Agency (NWDA) will allow researchers at the BRC to study and develop new treatments for high priority disease areas in the local population.My role at the BRC is to manage projects which are funded by the NWDA. Major projects in this programme include: the recruitment of leading researchers to new, high profile academic chairs; the development of a new state of the art centre for metabolomics and proteomics (including building and equipping the centre); linking with companies to build mutually benficial partnerships; training fellowships to develop the next generation of researchers; and pump priming initiatives designed to attract external research funding to BRC projects. It lists NHS researchers and other clinical research resources and allows research sponsors to search the database for sites or investigators they would like to involve in their trials or projects.I am working, as a KTP associate with Manchester business school, to develop ACTNoW and to ensure the long term sustainability of the service. Non continuous short temporary positions generally doing office or basic IT work in a range of companies including: Eversheds, Swiss Life, O2, Xerox.Most recent position (Sep 2007 - Dec 2007) initially involved basic data entry but quickly progressed to recommend and implement data storage and retrieval systems for a new project. By the end of the placement I was informally line managing a small team of (4) temporary employees.

Lhasa develop specialist software to predict metabolism and toxicology of chemicals. I worked there whilst writing up my PhD thesis helping the knowledge base and software development teams to complete a project commissioned as part of the EU's NoMiracle programme.My work involved testing new software, suggesting improvements and useful features, checking the quality of internal and external data and responding to the needs of the two teams.
