Design, develop, validate & test new manufacturing processes for a ceramic-matrix (SiC-SiC) composite. Focus on creating processes which reduce direct labor hours through automation and improve part quality & repeatability. Improve yield through increased understanding of material & manufacturing parameters and their relationship to part defects. - Developed & delivered an automated, high-precision (+/- 0.005”) pick & placement cell for 2D laminate stacking. - Developed & delivered an automated thermo-forming cell for complex 3D geometries. - Established relationships between part microstructure quality and key manufacturing parameters (incoming material properties, autoclave cycle, tooling design, etc.). - Worked with design & lifing to explore part redesigns for improved manufacturability and durability. - Collaborated extensively with experts from Lifing, Material Development, NDE, Material Characterization and Mechatronics specialties as required.

Completed three rotational assignments in the composites manufacturing, composites design & analysis and ceramic materials groups. - Assisted in the development of a press-forming process for composite parts. - Developed hardware & material process parameters for AFP-type manufacture of a ceramic-matrix composite material. - Developed an integrated finite-element approach for composite parts the incorporates models for resin cure mechanics, structural analysis & progressive failure as part of the AFRL’s ICM2 program. - Carried out mechanical property characterization to substantiate changes to manufacturing processes. - Identified & interviewed candidates for the program as a member of the recruiting team.

Designed & managed all processes relating to the manufacture of composite (fiberglass, carbon fiber & kevlar epoxy systems) parts. Created tooling, ply books, cure recipes, assembly guides, inspection requirements, etc. as necessitated by each project.

Purdue University, West Lafayette

Worked to develop and characterize a field-level patch repair system for composite sandwich structure. Both experimental and analytical techniques were used utilized to validate the strength and viability of the repair system through the use of full-scale testing, coupon testing and finite element software.

Served as a contractor to Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. Worked in co-ordination with Sikorsky to develop new designs to meet the supplier's expectations. Gathered basic data and refined into a fully detailed design in the form of models, drawings and BOM's as required.
