I was born in Norwich and bred on the family farm in Norfolk. I studied classics at Oxford University and qualified as a solicitor in 1979. From then until my professional retirement in 2013, I practised as a solicitor before running my own tax consultancy, advising, lecturing and writing books on estate planning and trusts. Since my father’s death in 1984, I have managed the family farm. In 2014 I was ordained as a self-supporting minister in the Church of England. In 2020 I was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Norfolk. My wife Annie and I have three children and two grandchildren.Conversations with friends led me to realise that, while there are plenty of books on coping with bereavement and dealing with grief, there was a real gap in the market. This was for a book which is both a step-by-step guide to helping those who are left behind to handle all the practical ‘stuff’ needing to be sorted and provides the digital forms which can help set out all the relevant information in a flexible and easy to use way.
