Raf Scampton

Working as an Engineering Systems Manager within the Control and Reporting Centre (CRC), I was responsible for maintaining the 'Frequentis' Voice Comms System, (VCS) and 'CERBERUS' Command and Control System (CCS). Using complex engineering circuit diagrams I was able to regularly fault-find and fix equipment issue in a quick and efficient manner. A high pressured environment that demanded constant quick thinking and impecable attention to detail.Dealing with various external agencies aswell as multiple remote RADAR sites on a daily basis, excellent communication skills were required which allowed me to excel within this role. Also during my time I was able to rectify issues with problematic radios, designing patching solutions and recieveing excellent feedback from the industry lead engineer. This work ensured that projects were completed within timescale and capabilities were able to be accessed at remote network locations.

Lead engineer on all corrective and preventative maintenance of the T101 and SSR RADAR systems. Involving heavy use of engineering documentation and technical equipment schematic diagrams. Expanding on my knowledge within ASACS I was trained on the T102 RADAR and 4001 Engineering Principles courses.During this time I was also deployed to the Falklands to manage and maintain the T101 RADAR in an operational setting ensuring maximum possible uptime 24/7. I was also able to gain experience through additional work duties such as working with F&L, COSHH, Inventories and Crypto items.

Responsible for the maintenance and support of various comms equipment across 90 signals unit. This included Network comms, Satellite comms and Information Management systems. Providing 2nd/3rd line support to the operation field squadrons, using my extensive experience and knowledge of the equipment I was able to offer support and training as well as the completion of fault rectification and maintenance activities.Heavily involved in the acceptance of a brand-new defence networking system I would attend initial coure briefings, supporting the creation of future course content. Building strong relationships with external agencies, I was able to influence engineering decisions by providing user level practical knowledge.Taking sole responsibility for the implementation of fleet wide essential modifications and technical update's, I ensured maximum possible uptime of the capability due to the fast and efficient nature of my work.
