Co-founder of Imont Technologies, an Internet of Things startup formed from the original Hive platform senior development team. With a focus on edge computing and peer-to-peer mesh networking, we developed the company’s core product, a Java based SDK for enabling the integration of IoT devices. The system used an in-house built distributed database and created a fully pluggable architecture using JavaScript device drivers for rapidly integrating new “things”. AWS tools including MQTT and Lambdas were used to integrate with external services such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. As a team, we maintained a constant focus on writing highly efficient asynchronous and reactive code. This allowed the product to run on very low-powered, low-cost linux based devices. As well as software development, I worked closely with potential customers and partners, representing the company and speaking at industry events.

Building an 8 person team from scratch, I was the leading figure in creating the Hive hub (a single-board linux based device which sits in the customer’s home) Java software solution. The team was responsible for the integration of end devices using radio protocols and linking these to the Hive cloud using AMQP. I was able to instil a test driven approach to development with a focus on quality, software craftsmanship and use of recognised design patterns. The creation of this connected home platform was one of the key drivers for the British Gas acquisition of AlertMe.com for $100m in March 2015.

Team Leader / Scrum Master of a cross-functional team in the development of part of the companies flagship telecommunication network management system. Introduced many Agile and XP development practices such as Kanban and ATDD as well as maintaining a hands-on approach to coding. I was also responsible for resource planning for the team and worked closely with the various project and programme managers and other teams spread across 5 global sites. As Team Leader I was involved in conflict resolution within and between teams and between teams and the programme management.In my role as an agile coach, provided class-room training including Scrum, User Stories and Agile estimations, ATDD and Test Automation. I was also a leading member in the wider company's agile transformation team. I regularly worked with other development teams to help them adopt agile techniques and practices as well as challenging at an organisational level.In addition to the above, I also maintained an active role in the development and coaching for the projects continuous integration system and test automation framework. This was a major area of development trying to write good quality tests for existing functionality as well as ensuring that all new features included the necessary automated test coverage.Technologies used on the project included Java EE in JBoss with Hibernate, Oracle, Maven, LDAP and the Robot test automation framework.

Worked as part of a team developing a new platform for the company's Fantasy Games websites. Helped introduce new technologies to the organisation including Spring, Hibernate, JavaEE, CruiseControl and JUnit. Worked on The Sun and The Times websites developing registration and subscription modules. Developed a personalised email system using JSPs, Servlets and XSLT.
