Matt is a senior commercial and energy lawyer and a key member of the Victorian Government Solicitors' energy advisory practice. Matt assists the State in delivering major energy projects, provides regulatory and policy advice and prepares related statutory instruments and commercial agreements.Before joining the VGSO in 2021, Matt worked in private legal practice with a focus on the energy sector. Matt acted for energy retailers, generators, and other industry participants, providing regulatory and commercial advice. Matt also engaged with industry regulators in Victoria and New South Wales on behalf of retailers and generators.Matt has acted on behalf of energy industry participants in relation to R&D projects with CSIRO and nationwide IPR licensing schemes.Matt has significant major project expertise, having acted in relation to major Victorian energy infrastructure projects, more than 10 wind farm EPC projects across the Eastern seaboard, the NBN roll-out and both 3G and 4G mobile telecommunications system roll-outs.Matt also has a strong background in commercial litigation and has acted for multinational technology vendors as well as listed and private corporations in commercial litigation in the Federal Court and State Supreme Courts of Victoria, NSW, SA and WA. Many of Matt's cases have related to major projects in the telecommunications and energy sectors.Since 2014, Matt has been accredited as a specialist in commercial law by the Law Institute of Victoria.
