Reliability/Maintenance Engineering Intern

Jx Nippon Chemical Texas Inc (Jxncti)

Pasadena, Tx

As an engineering intern my first and greatest creation was a fixed equipment maintenance forecast model for use in balancing costs and work load per year. Rotating equipment and I&E equipment forecast models were added later. These have been beneficial learning experiences regarding maintenance procedures of all equipment centered around reliability in a chemical plant. I have also reviewed and evaluated current Milton Roy positive displacement pumps and some Teikoku canned-motor pumps to determine a pump spare program. This was a capital project involving; collecting data on our current set of pumps, constant communication with vendors to obtain quotes on spare pumps and parts, and gaining approval for the purchase from upper management. A recent event gave me the opportunity to work with pressure control valve (PCV) specs as well. In working with our I&E reliability engineer, we were able to evaluate a group of current PCVs and we determined they were no longer efficient for our applications. By properly considering cost and safety, it was determined that new PCVs were necessary.I have received introductory training on topics of vibration analysis, pumps, seals, relief valves, regulators, bearings, CMMS, HSE, PSM, and Root Cause Analysis beyond what I learned in the classroom. I am involved in the Reliability Improvement Teams by forming Pareto charts for maintenance events and costs to identify bad actors and how we can improve on them. Finally, I have created a mechanical integrity training presentation for the purpose of informing operators and technicians.

Team Leader - Asme Human Powered Vehicle Challenge

Beaumont/Port Arthur, Texas Area

For my senior design project I led one of Lamar University's Human Powered Vehicle teams with the goal of competing nationally in the ASME E-Fest HPVC at Tennessee Tech at the end of the year. At competition we finished in the top 40% of all registered teams. Through this role I learned valuable lessons on leadership and group project management. As a team leader I was responsible for keeping track of deadlines and making sure we met them, creation and review of professional documents to be sent to ASME and our professors, and I also did the drivetrain work on our vehicle. Our vehicle was essentially a recumbent bicycle optimized for the 4 different competition sections; safety, innovation, sprint race, and endurance race.

Resident Assistant

Beaumont, Texas

As a Resident Assistant (RA) I worked in 2 different halls on Lamar University's campus. The first hall contained the main housing office where administrative duties and communication were of utmost importance. The second hall involved more of the traditional responsibilities of an RA. Monthly social, recreational, and educational programs as well as developing a close-knit community were the main goals. In a role that requires much interaction between people with various backgrounds, I succeeded in keeping the peace among my residents with zero roommate conflicts. I was responsible for approximately 72 residents in the first hall and 48 residents in the second.

Summer Camp Counselor

Carolina Creek Christian Camps

Huntsville, Texas

This position transformed me into who I am today as a professional and as a person. Working 24/7 with kids of varying age groups taught me to serve others before myself. As a Camp Counselor, I performed duties such as high and low ropes activities, rec sports facilitating, kitchen staff, and so much more. Low ropes activities was the best experience as this gave me the opportunity to share life lessons with campers.

Lighting Installation Crew

Strictly Electrical Solutions/Xtralight

Houston, Texas Area

I spent Summers 2014 and 2015 working as a construction helper for Xtralight's contractor. These summers consisted of full-time, up to 65 hour work weeks. During my time here I was always looking for ways to be more efficient in my work. Xtralight was strong on recycling. Each fixture came with 2 small boxes on each end to be recycled. I implemented a process to save approximately 75% more boxes than the previous process.

Peer Advisor/Orientation Leader

Beaumont, Texas

In my first semester at Lamar University I applied for the "Freshman Leadership Program." This turned out to be a series of workshops training us on different leadership skills with the end goal of having us lead New Student Orientations. Workshop topics varied from "How to deal with difficult people" to "How to communicate effectively." We also volunteered at places such as the Southeast Texas Food Bank.Throughout New Student Orientations, we helped in every area. We ran university info booths, led groups on tours, and personally connected with individuals through free time events.
