Managed a groups of 30 multi trade staff that provided maintenance, engineering, modification and recovery. This role required me to simultaneously manage the work load, resource requirements, tooling, training and reporting, discipline, fitness and well being of the staff within my assigned group; while maintaining and adhering to KPIs.Trained 2 groups of approximately 75 members to be soldiers in the Army. I was also required to instruct, mentor and asses army apprentices to achieve their national accreditation as mechanics.I was entrusted to assign and carry out installation, configuration, repair and maintenance of all manner of plant and equipment. I used this to plan, implement and manage preventative and emergency maintenance programs, including a mobile repair service similar to a heavy duty NRMA service.I was required to participate and advise in board like meetings with CEO and XO equivalents. Using available data, I would advise them on maintenance schedules, supply chain requirements, operational readiness, fleet auditing requirements, and transport arrangements. This at times was a very demanding task as the decisions that were made off of my recommendations could mean the difference between mission success and/or loss of life. After observing trends I realised that 75% of our operational fleet was about to be grounded. I conducted some research and surveys and developed some monitoring tools to collect and colocate this data. From this I was able to compile an extensive report recommending that a new method was established. This recommendation was taken on board and disseminated out to the other organisations reducing the grounded vehicles from this shortfall to only 5%.I was required to complete a course that trained supervisors in project management and operational management and planning. I achieved a very good result and was one of four selected for student of merit.

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor and Maintenance Manager, I was responsible for the maintenance planning, scheduling, production control, maintenance operations, parts procurement and management, customer service, servicing operations, technical administration, quality assurance, training and staff supervision of up to 10 multi-trade staff. In addition to this I was required to provide service, repair and modification on a fleet of vehicles that not only included four wheel drives, trucks and buses but also armoured vehicles and plant equipment valued in the millions of dollars.I represented the Australian Defence Force on several operations including Afghanistan and Queensland during the 2011 floods. During these operations I was at times, and often for extended periods, the sole maintainer for small fleets of up to 10 vehicles. This required me to make many decisions at short notice, with little to no guidance, on what potentially could have a vital impact on not only the immediate mission but further operations and could have cost Australian lives. As part of a small team I helped develop and implement several modifications to vehicles that would later be implemented fleet wide and further developed by the Australian Defence Forces material procurement and sustainability departments resulting in a new variant of vehicle.I was selected by my superiors to represent my current unit and wider ADF community by participating in several PR opportunities such as school presentations, demonstrations, open days and ceremonial functions.I was required to work in a position 2 levels higher for a period of three months. During this time I maintained my normal work load and the additional responsibilities to a higher than expected standard and awarded not only higher duties but also South East Queensland's Craftsman (Army Tradesman) of the Year Award.

Fulfilled the role of Army armoured vehicle specialist within an operational unit.Deployed to Malaysia (Butterworth) as one of two mechanics responsible for the over all maintenance and servicing of approximately 30 vehicles. In this position we were required to consult and negotiate with local trade services and facilities, overcoming language and cultural differences, to ensure repairs and parts were cost effective and to Australian standards.Deployed to Timor Leste (East Timor) as part of Timor Leste Battle Group 5's Workshop. On several occasions was stepped up into a lead role and was required to lead a repair team into potentially hostile and dangerous areas in order to conduct repairs, usually with short notice and limited information. On several occasions these tasks were mission critical and, due to their success, directly influenced the success of the battle group's overall mission success.I was also required to complete an Advanced Mechanics course that trained participants in advanced fault diagnosis/assessment, modification design and presentation, and technical writing. Student of merit was achieved as a result.

Trained to be a military tradesman. Achieved Cert III in Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (Road Transport).During my time in this role I completed all the self paced course work in two thirds of nominal training time frame. This allowed me the time to take on extra roles including representing the local area military in Rugby (won the Victorian Regional Competition); and running the Vehicle Training Wing's Social club (bringing the club from $1000 in debt to a surplus of $1500 in 3 months through product change and waste management and event coordination). I also worked as a member of Project Cassowary. This was a recruiting project designed to showcase the ADF's trade training by converting a 6x6 Landrover ambulance into a short wheel based burnout vehicle capable of performing burnouts on any combination of wheels. The project team was later given the name Team Army and the vehicle was called Armageddon. Work on this project not only included trade work but we were also trained to deal with the public and media in a professional manner.
