I was employed by the ActewAGL Distribution (AAD) Billing project as a Test Analyst required to test the implementation of a COTS product - Gentrack Velocity 4.0. Throughout the project we had several Test Managers and as the most experienced Tester I saw the need to provide leadership to my team and support to each new Test Manager. As a result, I was given a Test Lead role which included providing status reports to Project Management and administration support for the HP ALM application.My responsibilities in this role included: - Executing test cases and raising resulting defects - Testing interactions and compliance with the National Electricity Market - Testing interactions with Energy Retailers - Ensuring ActewAGL would meet the testing requirements for accreditation in the National Electricity Market - Providing status reports to Test Manager and reporting any major issues or risks

The Department had no approved testing utility so as the Senior Test Analyst in a small team, my role was to implement a system to create and execute test cases. When I decided it was time to move on, I was asked to stay with the Department and provide testing support for a problematic system called Research Block Grants.My responsibilities in this role included: - Develop and implement processes and procedures for testing for the project - Setup and administration of testing tools - Gathering and reviewing business specifications for completeness - Conducting information sessions to raise any issues in the specifications or any questions around the requirements - Creating test matrices to identify all testing scenarios - Executing test cases and raising resulting defects - Providing status reports to Test Manager and reporting any major issues or risks - Contributing to a test evaluation summary - Providing input to a post implementation review

I forged a good reputation through my hard work and attention to detail and as such was assigned as the Test Manager on the first phase of the Departments massive system overhaul - Systems for People.My responsibilities included: - Developing a high level Test Strategy - Gathering and reviewing business requirements from the Business Analysts - Conducting information sessions and researching the Requirements - Identifying key areas for regression testing and automation - Developing test cases according to business specifications - Coordinating application builds into the Test environment - Managing several testing staff in an Agile development environment - Mentoring and training staff in processes I developed for creation of test matrices and test cases - Ensuring defects were resolved, returned and re-tested in a decent amount of time - Executing test cases and raising resulting defects - Reporting major issues or risks to Project and Section management - Providing status reports to Project and Section Management to confirm that testing was still on schedule - Negotiating priorities with Project stakeholders in the event of shortened timeframes - Regression testing of key system components - Producing a test evaluation summary for the Project manager - Providing input into a post implementation review

My introduction to quality assurance was at the Health Insurance Commission (now Medicare Australia). The Testing Services Group had an excellent program in place for training new testers and this is where I gained my base knowledge of the profession. It was here I discovered that I really enjoyed being in a role where I could provide valuable insight and direction to delivering a polished product.Most of the projects I worked on used the waterfall methodology which was the common software development life-cycle at the time but my primary project - PBS Online - used the Rational Unified Process (RUP) which was my first experience with iterative development. Through the introduction program and my first projects, I learned how to analyse business requirements and identify areas for system, regression and automated testing. I discovered what was important in test case development and execution and how to provide detailed testing results and defects.After several promotions, I finished up at HIC as a Senior Test Designer. As a leader, I developed all types of test plans, test summaries, status reports and all of the documentation that was popular at the time. I was also involved in coordinating releases to test environments and negotiating priorities and time-frames.

I made the move to IT as a Service Desk Analyst on the National Service Desk for the Department of Defence. My role was to provide first level support to Defence staff around Australia and overseas. I worked in a team that specialised in the support of the Defence Headquarters and primary locations of Defence SES personnel. I was promoted to second in charge and responsible for managing a team of around 15 staff and escalating the priority of difficult jobs in the absence of my team leader.

My introduction to full-time work was as an Asset Management Officer for the ACT governments IT department - InTACT. I was responsible for the procurement, delivery and installation of new hardware in the various ACT government sites and the collection and disposal of IT equipment that had reached the end of lease. My hard work resulted in several promotions finally requiring me to manage a team of 5 people in the Asset Management Section.
